One of my favorite things to do every day, is wake up and do some yoga. I am one of those ladies that gets up early to shower, do makeup, prepare meals and etc. However, I was always groggy in the mornings and sometimes will oversleep. When I wake up, I am tired and really do not feel like driving my commute to work. I will tend to procrastinate and play on social media for awhile, but that really doesn’t benefit me.
When I was in high school, my aerobics teacher would always tell us that we should be waking up in the morning and do yoga to help us prepare for the day ahead. Now, I didn’t want to be up any earlier than I had to in high school, so I would do it at night before bed. This never really relaxed me enough to sleep, but instead would keep me up all night.
Since moving into my Arizona house, I decided that some changes needed to be made. I started waking up at 5 AM (Yes, it is pretty eary), and start with a nice, morning yoga routine. I have an app that I use because am part of a workout program, but if you just want yoga, you can look up morning yoga routines on Youtube.
I grab my mat, change if needed and play my yoga clip. I would change up the routines too. I do a rotation between 3 different videos throughout the week. This way I don’t get bored and the routine is not stagnant. It also helps when you stretch your muscles in different positions so that you gain more flexibility.
Make sure you find a video that is not focused on using yoga as a hardcore workout. The purpose of the morning yoga routine is to help the mind, body and soul refresh and get ready for the day ahead. I always like to choose ones that require focus and balance. At the end you will be able to relax in child’s pose, or even perhaps a shavasana. Both of these help with mindfulness.
I always feel instantly refreshed after my session and like I can take on anything. After I will take a quick shower, drink a bottle of water and finish off my morning with a protein shake. (I have mocha latte ones, soooo goood!).
Of course, my routine is not for everyone, but I do urge you to do morning yoga. It truly will help you and feels amazing!
